Sous le terme de vraie religion j’entends une religion à la portée de tous les hommes, fondée sur la raison commune à tous les peuples et à cause de cela obligatoire pour tous. Le principe de cette religion est exprimé dans l’evangile par ces mots: «Fais à autrui ce que tu voudrais qu’on te fît. Ceci est la loi et les prophètes». Si seulement ce principe était reconnu comme unique principe religieux pour tous les hommes, l’égoïsme qui est prêt à sacrifier le bien de son prochain pour atteindre à ces fins disparaîtrait de soi-même. De sorte que je reconnais comme cause du mal en général et des guerres en particulier uniquement l’ignorance de la vraie religion. Je ne suis pas non plus tout-à-fait d’accord avec vous sur la fraternité que vous supposez possible entre les états et leurs chefs. Je crois...

II disait: les bienheureux ne sont pas ceux qui sont rassasiés, qui sont riches, qui sont joyeux et glorieux parmi les hommes , mais bienheureux sont les (gueux) les pauvres, bienheureux sont les humbles, bienheureux ceux qui pleurent, ceux qui sont débonnaires, ceux qui cherchent la vérité, bienheureux les miséricordieux, ceux qui sont purs de coeur, bienheureux ceux qui donnent la paix , bienheureux ceux qui sont persécutés pour la justice, ils sont bienheureux, quand même on les injurie et quand on les persécute. Réjouissez vous si le monde vous injurie et vous persécute pour la vérité: on a persécuté de même les prophètes.
